do you usually visit this blog, and trying to figure out why there hasn’t been posts?
well, in the previous post, I was contemplating moving over to blogspot, and that, I did, though it’s still under construction, though I’m posting my new articles there now, you can get there by going to http://newblog.foreignkid.net. Eventually, the blog address will be the same as this one, but during the transition period, I will have this temporary address.
Over the past few weeks, I’ve been contemplating my online workstyle while dealing with a my webhost which has been less than ideal lately, in addition to dealing with Wordpress problems that I can’t seem to find a good solution for (not the formatting of the articles being all screwed up). Some say, it’s the theme, some say it’s the browser, I spent countless hours trying to fix it, then last night, it dawned on me…
I have been an avid fan of gmail since its inception, I use everything google as it is, so I re-checked blogspot, after abandoning it about a year ago, and i was pleasantly surprised with the improvements that have been made to it, the new Widget enable templates are really cool, allowing me to pretty much add anything I want on the blog.
As I contemplated the idea of the blog, I starting thinking back about web services that are in existence today that are more than adequate for a lot of tasks, namely photo galleries, with flickr, google gallery, .mac gallery, webshots, who needs to host their own gallery anymore. I used to enjoy having full control over that, but that eventually just becomes a nightmare really.
So… my new initiative.. is to start working on moving most of my services to the wonderful world of hosted web 2.0.
No worries on your end, if there are any faithful readers of this blog. I will only migrate fully once I have moved the archives to the new location, which, will probably take a little bit of time, as I haven’t quite figured out an easy way to move articles from WordPress to BlogSpot yet, mind you, there are a whole lot of articles that do the process reversed (BlogSpot to WordPress) … does this say something about the two services? I’d like to believe that it doesn’t but I will give it a shot anyway. I hope to be able to have a nicer looking page after all, while still providing interesting, education, and fun content.
Stay tuned as i go through this transition, and things will be dandy again soon.
I don’t know if you take a lot of time looking on the sidebar section of my site. There is one section in particular I’d like to draw your attention to though: The Utility Of The Day section.
Though I haven’t been posting a whole lot on the blog, I have been updating that Utility Of The Day link. This is nothing but an RSS feed to my UtilityOfTheDay tag on my del.icio.us profile.
You can always check that on here, there is a whole lot of really cool utilities, a lot of which is now becoming web 2.0 tools, all the better… that means less downloading and installing stuff on your machine!
Of course you can always have my feed straight into your RSS reader that will deliver the UtilityOfTheDay straight to you:
I has been a few days since I got a chance to blog, a lot has been happening, but I’m around. I hope that you guys still stick around even if a couple days pass by without any posts! keep the comments coming, and if you haven’t checked out the EntreCard,  (especially if you have your own blog), I encourage you to do so.   I received an email from my friend a couple of days ago, which had some pretty sweet images. Some of them may be old, in fact, maybe all of them, but I’ve always been intrigued, and impressed by this kind of work! How cool! Check it out: (Click on the pictures for a larger version)
So, I don’t know if you are aware of the RSS feed that is available on this site, and other sites for that matter. it’s a great little tool to be able to keep track of any updates on the site without having to keep checking back.
To add my site to your RSS feeds, all you have to do is click on the “Entries RSS”, or “Comments RSS” and, if you have Firefox, or Safari, you would have a built in RSS reader, otherwise, you would need to download one before you add the feed.
A little confused? check out the YouTube video below, which will tell you a bit more, in simple terms about RSS Feeds:
I guess this post is more of a plug to a service I use, as well as an update to my blog site.
If you noticed on the top right, you will see a "Grand Central — Call Me — " Button. Don't be fooled, this actually does work. Now I hope that you won't just pick up and start calling just to see if it works, or I'll have to start sending them all to voicemail.
I am using this through grandcentral.com, which is a service that was recently acquired by google. Currently it's in Beta, and I am currently unsure as to whether this will remain a free service, or become a paid service as it comes out of Beta. Meanwhile, I am enjoying the free number, and the benefits that come with it.
If you have not hear about this service, and you happen to have a couple of phones that you carry around, this may be an excellent service for you. In a nutshell, this will give you the opportunity to never have to give our your phone number again, even if you change phones, or phone numbers… are you curious as to how that is possible? Check out their site, they explain it much better than I ever would …
What is better at the new year than relaunch the blog? My friends think I’m a geek, I simply think that it’s a great resource to have.
I have found myself referring to my own blog many times trying to lookup something I wrote about in the past.I hope to keep this updated on a daily basis.Â
Please keep checking. The content will be very similar to what is already contained there in.For the most part, I will be referring to some cool websites, web 2.0 applications that I’ve found. However, occasionally, I will post about random stuff that I may have thoughts about, or read about.
If there is anything in particular you would be interested in.
Please leave a comment, and I’ll attempt to address it, especially if it’s technology related. Hope to see you around soon. and happy blogging!
I finally updated my Wordpress to 2.0. I really like it so far. most of the changes happened on the backend, and the management. makes it much easier to change things, and manage comments and posts.Â
I’m also having some thoughts about changing the theme to something else. I’m kind of getting bored of this one.
Today, I added 2 new links to my blog that will allow you to view my netflix queue, and recent activity. You can find this link on the left site in the “Links in foreignkid section”: The links are “Netflix Queue” and “Netflix Activity”.
The other thing that I added is my facebook profile, which has some contact info, and some other stuff about me…. the link is locate on top of the “search” field on my blog.
Today I added a new feature on my blog : the Trillian Status Bar. you can now see if I am online, and will be able to IM directly from my page. all you would need is an account at one of the free IM services, you don’t even need the client installed on your computer, as you can use the web service.
The status bar will look something like this when on the top right of my blog:
when you click on the bar, you will go to a page where you have direct links to login to your account over the web, this is what it would look like:
Hope you like this, and let me know if you need help putting one up on your site
