Since Draw Something is now quite the popular game, I have seen a lot of requests of installing that game on the Kindle Fire. My wife happens to have one, and loves this game, so I took it upon myself to research a way to do this. I don’t have any other Android devices at home, except for the Kindle Fire, and a Google TV (which is useless in this case). So in this post, I will show you how to install this app on your Kindle Fire (even if it is un-rooted.
Alright, roll up your sleeves, and let’s get it started.
First, we need to enable 3rd party apps on the Kindle
Go to your Kindle Fire Settings –> Device –> Change “Allow Installation of Applications” to “On”
Head over to the App Store, and download the application “Easy Installer”
Once you have that, it’s time to download the apk for Draw Something. You can get this from HERE. Download it straight on your Kindle by opening a Web Browser, and going to: http://goo.gl/geHIF
Open up the “Easy Installer” app, select the menu, and select Scan Apps (if you don’t see the app listed)
Once “Draw Something” shows up in the list, simply select install.
A couple of notes:
The .apk that I have given you, is one that I downloaded at the time when v1.3.6 was the latest. Once a new updates comes out, you will need to look on the web for an .apk with the latest version. the game won’t run unless you’re on the latest. For now, this link will work. the rest of the instruction, however, should work without a problem.
Though these instructions were specifically for “Draw Something”. you can use this method to install pretty much any application you want.
UPDATE:
You guys are probably going to like this. I finally found the new version of Draw Something 1.5, which has the additional features, (chat, etc..). Download it here
I've been playing draw something on my iphone and now bought the full version for my kindle fire. How do I set it up so i can use the same account for both devices?
When you start up the game on the Fire, you can login with the same credentials as your other device, everything should be there like you're used to it. (or login to Facebook, if this is what you used on your other device)
so im thinking would you be able to also download word on a kindle fire... just wondering and is it possiple to talk to others on a kindle fire fo free? ( probably impossible but just curious cause i used to think having games on a kindlefire was impossible) :D
Hey Jessi, technically, any app to which you can find an APK can be installed in that manner. I haven't looked up angry birds. Though, if I'm not mistaken, I think that one may already exist for the fire ?
I found your article a couple weeks ago and was stoker that it worked...however, now whenever I try to play the app wont go past the 'getting ready' screen. Any ideas why? I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling and logging in with a different account.
Cass,
the only time I see this symptom with this game is when I don't have functioning internet connectivity. are you positive that you have a working connection to the internet? Aside from that, I'm not sure I have any other suggestions off the top of my head.
Stacy, you can do this with pretty much any app to which you can find the .apk file. (which is the application file for Android). I did a quick search on the net, and it doesn't look like anyone ported that one yet.
It does seem to exist though, so if you know someone savvy, which has a rooted Android device (not the Kindle Fire), then theoretically, you can extract that file from there, and install it in the same method that you did Draw Something.
I just got my kindle fire today and was hoping to get draw something on it, and found your article. When I go to install Easy Installer it says its a free app, but then wants my credit card info..I'm just wondering if this is normal?
That's ok brenm. Your credit card is required to purchase anything. The free apps won't charge your credit cards, and the Easy Installer app is free for sure, so no worries.
Hi and thanks for this. However, I am completely lost... went to settings clicked ON for allowing apps... then went to the app store... downloaded the app and then nothing happened... each time I open the easy installer... there is nothing but a search field. ... nothing but radiant HD 3,13,2 and a search field, ... I checked down in the area on the bottom of the blank black page and it had some technical info... but when I kept looking around it asked me how I wanted to input or something... I chose kindle keyboard (other option was input method I think) then a message came up and said my device does not support this or something like that! Help ! What have I done wrong!!! I am totally okay with you telling me that I once again did a ID10T error!! Thanks for any assistance
Hey momra22,
I think where you went wrong is going to the App Store. This application is actually not in the App Store, hence this article :). You actually have to download the app from the article (there is a link to it there). Once you complete the download, then you should be able to go to Easy Installer, and "Scan Apps", and your download will show up then.
Did this resolve your problem?
No, but I think we may be close... I hope so... The app that I went to the app store for was the Easy Installer... that is the one that will not open up to anything but the sort of blank screen... should I be going somewhere else other than the app store (link at the top of my kindle fire) for this Easy installer? The one that I find there has the icon of a blue icecube... maybe this is the wrong one? Thanks for your help! I may be back on once we straighten out the whole easy installer snafu... I look at the instructions and it says so I opened your page on my kindle ... not quite sure how I am to "open a web browser" but then the link I need is on the original page... You cannot be too simple in your explanation of this! Thanks so much!
The easy installer app is the correct one.
Also, seeing an empty black screen, only means that you don't have any package that are ready for installation, but you're in the right place once your package is ready to install.
Before you open the easy installer, you want to open a web browser, and type in the following URL in the address bar:
http://goo.gl/geHIF
Once the download begins, you can look on the top left of your kindle (in your notification area), and you should see a small 1, or different number, depending on how many notifications you have.)
If you click on the notification area, it should show that Draw Something was downloaded. Once you verify that step, you can now go to your Easy Installer application, if the screen is still black with nothing on there,r then you may need to scan for new applications. To do this, tap the button to the left of the magnifying glass (to open the menu), then tap the "Scan Apps" button, on the bottom row, in the middle.
Now the Draw Something application should show up. At this point, you can tap the check mark next to Draw Something, so that it's green, and then on the bottom, tap "Install Selected Apps".
Hope this helps!
Hey Patty,
I'm not sure what steps you were going through. But it almost sounds like you were trying to open the downloaded APK directly from your notifications, which will likely not work.
Make sure to follow the instructions step by step, and after you install the "Easy Installer", download the Draw Something apk, then open up the Easy installer, and run the apk from within that application.
Hope this helps,
thank you so much!! I've been wanting Draw Something on my Kindle Fire since I first downloaded it to my iPhone. this is great and was so easy to do.
Do you have other informative Kindle Fire information I can learn from you? I'm still learning things about my Fire.
Thanks again!!
I'm glad I could be of assistance Melanie :)
I mostly wrote this article because my wife really wanted that game. Just today I also made available the game TempleRun, in case you like to play that one as well. Aside from that, I haven't really done a whole lot with the fire :) If I do though, It'll probably end on this blog, so keep an eye on it.
Cheers!
Thanks so much for these instructions on how to put Draw Something on the Kindle Fire. I just did it and it works perfectly! I was so tired of playing it on my phone. It is so much easier to see and draw on the Fire.
From a technical standpoint, you can download any package that you can find the .apk file for. (bit torrents probably), and install it following this method.
So, it should work overseas, as long as you have access to download files, and know how to find the apk for Angry Birds Space.
thanks a bunch for this! I just noticed that it installed the pro version of the game. Did I get charged in anyway for it? Sorry if its a stupid question, but just wanted to be sure
Jon, even though it's the pro version, you won't have to pay for it, as we're kinda doing a workaround to get it to work on the Kindle, so the Amazon store has nothing to do with that particular installation.
Cindy. All you have to do is google a the Hanging with Friends file.
The extension is .apk .
so if you try to search for "Hanging with Friends.apk" "MediaFire" ... you may be able to download it if it exists.
Same search would go for any other games. (be careful, the sites that you would end up getting to doing such a search could contain malware, so proceed with caution there :)
