I agree with you, and after my experience with Mimosa, I’m starting to lean more towards hosted eDiscovery. The competition is getting more fierce, as new products surface. I’m waiting until July (new Fiscal year) to see what comes up, but I have some ideas in mind. By the way, nice run down of all the eDiscovery products, sounds like you’ve had bad experiences with most of them

Mimosa – Volume shadow copies and an IOR (much more storage needed than anticipated not to mention high performance machines
Symantec – Alta Vista? What about the HTML copy of every email stored? Also, DA is NOT an eDiscovery solution
CommVault – This is the same code from 1998 how could it be nextgen?
ZL Technologis – One word… Insane
Waterford – Line of business
EMC/Kazeon – SKU 10,842 and 9,577. Would you like storage with that whatchamacallit?
Autonomy – What is it? Two separate products that is rapidly being assimilated
IBM – If at first you don’t succeed

Having worked with a number of archiving companies I can honestly say, there are no outstanding players on the market today. Most of the solutions being offered really don’t provide EDRM functionality and as with many of these technologies, they were never designed to run with more than a couple thousand mailboxes using Exchange 2003 or earlier. My suggestion would be wait for 6 months and see who truly will be the leader in this space… I would take the magic quadrant reports with a grain of salt, after all, who pays Gartner for the magic quadrant?

How Epic Games (of Gears of War fame) swapped to Symantec Enterprise Vault with MS Exchange for archiving.

Here’s the kicker —> After buying solutions (rumor has it they got a refund from one of them) from EMC and Mimosa, Epic Games migrated the environment to EV.

We have worked with Mimecast and been very happy. They provide our security, archiving and continuity. Great people who always seem to bend over backward to make sure we are happy. They are a smaller vendor in the US but are much bigger in the UK. Hope it helps!

Denny, thank you for your offer. However, the reason I have written this post was BECAUSE your higher up management refused to give any refunds, and completely ignored the fact that we specifically requested that any additional conversations would only be acceptable, if they were related to some sort of refund, but yet, we kept being approached for additional efforts of implementation, with not even so much as a hint of being willing to issue a refund. It’s the sad truth.

And, by the way, the fact that Mimosa is having some challenges is unfortunate. However, you cannot be taking potential client’s money and not be willing to rectify the situation under the pretense that you are having challenges. To be honest, this is your company’s problem, and not mine, and I certainly shouldn’t be paying for it.

I stumbled across your posting and am sorry to see it. I used to work for Mimosa and I have a pretty good idea who you are. Sadly you were robbed. I left Mimosa some many months ago and at that time the writing was on the walls. They have a pretty good dog and pony show and you were suckered in. If it were me I would take legal action.
