This was an amazing review. I haven't really heard a lot of negative things about the phone, and the ones I have heard seem to be irrelevant to me. I am just a college student, but really like to be up to date with things.

christina,
all your ringtones should reside in the Windows Directory. if you open the File Explorer, and navigate to the Windows Directory, then find the MP3, or WAV files in there, and delete them, and that should do it. I'm not sure if you can actually use a song that resides on your storage card as a ringtone unless you move it to the main memory... so you can still use the songs, but I would suggest you move them one at a time as you need to use them, to avoid taking up all your main memory, (which would be a bad thing :) )

Hope this helps.

Hey guys, I have the VX6700 too. It's a great phone but i cant figure out how to remove the ringtones from the list. Once you put it, it says and takes up memory, eventhough the song is on the storage card. Please help me before I break it. :(

Hey Ray,

The answers to both your questions are a yes...
the first one is a little bit more obscure for me, as I don't know how the Q works. however, there is some synchronization software that you may be able to install on the Q, as well as your XV6700, which will just simply put all your stuff back, this includes your email, tasks, calendar contacts. with this software. I once managed to hard reset my phone while I was at a restaurant, and was able to, on the spot restore all my data without entering a single word. that being said, check out the Verizon Wireless Sync Utility, (this utility comes stock on the XV6700 ... ), if you're running AKU 3.5, which is much faster, I don't believe the wireless sync utility is on it, but I may be wrong. another utility that is much more universal is called "Emoze": http://www.emoze.com check out the website and get creating as far as migrating your data, there's definitely a way to do it with this tool.

As for using the phone as a modem.... HA HA ! $15 to set it up ? what a rip off! there is actually a full thread on http://pdaphonehome.com that talks about using your XV6700 as a modem. I do have the instructions somewhere. I can send them to you if needed, but I believe the info you need is all in the thread. I believe the file needed for that is called something like wdialer or wmdialer.exe . give it a shot and see if any of those work.

If you get stuck, let me know and I can try to help.

Cheers,

George,
I am changing from a Q to the xv6700. Is there a program out there that would make it simple for me to transfer all of the contact information off of the Q to the xv6700 or will I have to just re enter most of it by hand? Also I checked with Verizon and they said they could make my phone work as a modem for my laptop it I would pay them $15. Is there a way that I could set up the phone to do it without going through Verizon. Thanks for your site, it is a wealth of knowledge.

I purchased a xv6700 on ebay for $228 which included shipping. They are selling them as a buy it now for that price. I saw that you have information on how to convert the 6700 so that you can use it as a modem with a laptop. Could you please send me the information on this? Go to http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZimaxcompQQhtZ-1 and you can buy these phones for that price. There are quite a few listed at this price.

Hey jess, congrats on getting your phone. The manual can probably be found anywhere online.
In order to connect it to your computer, you need to install Microsoft Active Sync, this will allow you to synchronize your PDA as well as install new software. you can find this software here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/activesync/activesync42.mspx

also, I would recommend that you visit the site: http://www.pdaphonehome.com it has a lot of great resources that can help you get started with your phone. Hope this helps.

that doesn't sound like a normal thing. and I think you may having an issue, possibly with the software of your phone. before sending it to the shop, I would do 2 things as a last resort. try a hard reset, and see if that would resolve the issue, and call verizon's support to see if they can help you with it. in any case, if you end up needing to replace the unit, you cannot do it through the shop, but you would have to call verizon support, and they would have open a case for you to get it replace (by mail that is). that is of course, assuming that you do have the insurance for the phone. if you don't, then you may have to just purchase a replacement phone at full price if in fact there is a problem with your hardware.

hope this helps,

My phone seems to "flash" when I am on a call, meaning it clicks over to usually a recording about "call cannot be completed as dialed" or something like that. It happens almost everytime I use it, especiialy when checking v-mail. Any thoughts? Not looking forward to going back into the verizon shop!
